Robert Michael St. John was born in Denver, Colorado, to Colorado native William St. John, a pediatric dentist, and Madeleine St. John, who came to the United States from Belgium, to study at Barat College in Lake Forest, Illinois. Robert is remembered as an imaginative child, a hardworking student, devoted reader, and seeker of new knowledge and experiences. His curiosity led him on travels throughout Europe, and his wish to serve inspired him to volunteer for the Peace Corps, where he taught English in Morocco. Robert’s passion for teaching led to work as a Great Books discussion trainer before becoming a literature and composition instructor at the college level. He and Janet met in Chicago while they were both volunteering in a teen literacy program, and they married several years later. Robert soon shifted his career to educational publishing and found himself exploring emerging technologies, including the ways they could assist teachers and improve student learning at various grade levels. He and Janet relocated from the Chicago area to New Mexico in 2003. Robert spent the last two decades as a technology consultant for educational publishers. Like his father, Robert was gentle, witty, patient, and loved great food and wine. He shared with much of his family an utter devotion to Denver sports teams, especially the Broncos.

Robert passed on Friday, September 30, 2022, after a difficult struggle with Parkinson’s disease. He was Janet’s darling husband and best friend for 30 years, and he leaves behind eight siblings, Bill, Maharha Walters, Kay, Elizabeth, Tina, Marc, Annie, and Paul; and fourteen nieces and nephews. Robert’s integrity, enduring commitment, and affectionate love as a husband, brother, and friend will never be forgotten.
