Robert Matthew Kochevar, age 98, passed away January 20, 2021 at Alamo Nursing Home in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Robert (Bob) was born August 9, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan.
He was one of ten children born to Joseph and Ann (Grahek) Kochevar. Bob was a lifelong resident of the Detroit area and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1952, he was united in marriage to Margaret E. (Nagy) Kochevar. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Detroit Institute of Technology. Bob owned and operated a hollow metal manufacturing company for many years prior to his retirement. He was a recreational pilot for over 50 years. It was one of his greatest passions. Bob was also an avid golfer and enjoyed many sports including skiing and tennis. In 2019, he relocated to Kalamazoo, Michigan to be closer to family.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Margaret E. Kochevar in 2019. He was also preceded in death by his parents and by nine of his siblings. Surviving are his children: Peter Kochevar and wife Cecile Steudel, Cyndi Kochevar Bouma and husband William Bouma, and Nancy Kochevar Snell and husband Tom Snell; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a sister, Shirley Hansford; many nieces and nephews.
