Robert M. Lee, 80, of Galesburg, died in his home on August 25, 2008.

He was born on October 7, 1927 in Monmouth the son of Maurice B. and Edna M Doyle Lee. Both of whom are deceased.

He married Margaret E. McCleary on September 4, 1954. She died in 1988. Surviving are three children, Teresa M. Noble (Ron Noble) of Galesburg, Robert M. Lee (Teresa Randell Lee) of Homan, WI, and Hope Ann Nelson (Russell Nelson) of Rio. He has five grandchildren whom he spent a lot of time with and enjoyed very much, Robert Bradley Lee, Shane Lee, Megan Lee, James Noble, and Logan Nelson. He is also survived by three brothers, Donald (Donna) Lee of Monmouth, Lawrence (Doris) Lee of Seaton, and Edward (Kathy) Lee of Little York; and five sisters, Barbara (Mike) Rascon of Huntington, MD, Edna Johnson of Monmouth, Martha (Merlyn) Hart of Monmouth, Connie Ledbetter of Monmouth, and Linda Libby of Galesburg.

He attended grade school at Hale Center, Monmouth High School for 3 years, and graduated from Little York in 1946. He worked for the State of Illinois for two years before being inducted into the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the 188th Army Airborne Paratroopers, a unit of the 11th Airborne-now the 101st Airborne. He worked for Midwest Mfg. Co. which later became Maytag. He worked in the different paint shops as a leadman or paint tech. He retired in February 1990 after 37 years.

Since he enjoyed farming so much he became involved through his son-in-law Ron Noble in the James R. Purlee faming endeavor, helping in their farming operation for the next 15 years.

He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He was involved in helping to build the new church and was on the parish council for 12 years. He was also an usher, collection minister, and extraordinary minister for several years. He was also a lifetime 50 yr member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1492 of Monmouth.
