Born February 17, 1929 in Fort Collins, Colorado to Herman & Mary (Ring) Sauers.
He is survived by his wife Marian (Pechota) Sauers, his daughter Valerie Lynn of New York and son, Robert L. Sauers, II of Arizona. He is the brother of William Neel and Shirlee Connor, both of Texas.

He served in the US Army Air Force both on helicopter and fixed wing aircraft, with two tours in Vietnam as forward air control and also in Korea as an infantryman. Mr. Sauers was a recipient of the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Mr. Sauers was affiliated with the Kiwanis Club and also Sigma Chi Fraternity.
