Robert L. Pierski, 87, of Peru, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Manor Court in Peru. Mr. Pierski was born May 23, 1929 in LaSalle to Walter and Francis (Lipiecki) Pierski.
He married Elizabeth J. “Betty” Skovare in 1954 at St. Patrick’s Church in LaSalle. Together they shared 63 years of marriage. They met at Westclox when Betty worked there as an inspector. Mr. Pierski was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Peru. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean Conflict for four years, from October 1948 to October 1952. He served aboard the USS Arnib, an attack cargo assault ship. He worked as a machinist at Westclox from 1953 to 1965 and then Sunstrand Sauer from 1965 until retirement in December 1990. Robert loved fishing, pitching horseshoes, and traveling. He liked to teach young children to fish. Together, with his wife, he enjoyed going to their summer cottage, Fish-N-Fun, in McNabb.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Betty, and his three children, whom he loved, Robert A. Pierski of Spring Valley, Cheryl A. (Jack) Grasser of McNabb, and Thomas S. (Pam) Pierski of Peru.
He was blessed with 18 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren with one more on the way. Also, surviving are his sister-in-law, Janet Rodda of Mark, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Delores Reno.
