Robert L. Martin, age 84, of Salem, Ohio and Bayside Estates, Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the Blossom Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born March 24, 1933 in Salem, son of the late John H. and Gertrude R. (McMillan) Martin.

He was a graduate of Salem High Class of 1951 and retired July 1994, from GM Lordstown after 30 years in maintenance. He had previously worked at Republic Steel as an inspector for 7 years. He lived his whole life in Salem and wintered at his Florida home for the last 20 years.

He was a former member of the Salem First Presbyterian Church, a member of the Bayside Yacht Club in Ft. Myers Beach, FL, Moose Lodge #1610 in Port Clinton, Ohio and the UAW-Local 1112.

Robert loved boating on all five great lakes and in Florida. He loved fishing. He was an avid hunter, hunting in Montana, Idaho, Texas, Pennsylvania and Ohio. He loved going to all 50 states and Mexico and Caribbean cruises. He enjoyed his motorcycle, a five week trip of 11,000 miles to California and back with Jetty and Bob Jr. They have been to almost all of the 48 states by motorcycle. Bob will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.

Survivors include his wife of 51 plus years, “Jetty” M. (Liggitt) Martin, two sons, Robert L. Martin Jr. of Salem and James R. (Paulette) Martin of Massillon; a granddaughter, Samara Martin; a grandson, Jamie Martin; great granddaughter, Calla Martin; his sister, Peggy Martin Webber of Lorain, Ohio; two nieces; a great niece; and four great nephews.
