Robert L. Long, 72, of Williamsport, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010, at the Williamsport Home after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Bob graduated from Lycoming College in 1960 with a B.A. in English. He taught elementary education in the Williamsport School District for 22 years before taking an early retirement in 1984. He and his wife then moved to Jacksonville, Fla. where they worked as part of the support staff in the Jacksonville Division of the FBI. They retired in April 2000 and returned to Williamsport.
Bob was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church where he had served as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the choir.
Born April 1, 1938 in Williamsport, he was the son of Richard C. and Ruth Greninger Long.
Surviving are his wife of 32 years, the former, Nancy Chevalier Downs; his mother, Ruth Long Hough of Williamsport; children, David (Jane) Long of Midlothian, Vir. and Laurie (Rex) Minium of Montoursville; stepchildren, Erin (Kenny) Ayers of Tallahassee, Fla. and Jeff Downs of Williamsport; a brother, Ronald (Susan) Long of Stafford, Vir. and grandchildren, Alex and Rachael Minium and Sarah and Alyssa Long.
