Robert L. “Jake” Irwin, Sr., of Burlington, died on Monday, December 22, 2008, at University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, at the age of 69. He was born in Burlington and remained a lifelong resident. He served his country in the U. S. Navy. He worked as a self employed building contractor. Jake was involved in community matters as a member of the Young America Fire Company where he had formerly served as secretary and treasurer. He was also a member of the New Jersey Exempt Fireman’s Association.
Jake was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Council #589, in Burlington. Jake is survived by his wife, Janice L.(nee Tomasone), his son and daughter in law, Robert L., Jr. and Gretchen Irwin, of West Chester, PA, his daughter and son in law, Lynn and Sean Celia, of Burlington, his grandchildren, Briannon and Bobby Irwin, Sean and Jake Celia, Kevin, Shawn, Daniel, and Timothy McAveney, and his seven great grandchildren. Brother of the late Bill Irwin, he is also survied by brothers and sisters, John H. Irwin, Jr., Thomas Irwin, Mary Ann Gallo, Elizabeth Brilla and Edward Irwin, as well as many nieces and nephews.
