Life-long Genesee resident, Robert Louis Herman, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the age of 89. Bob was born March 9, 1925 to Walter and Ella Comnick Herman on the family farm. Bob attended Genesee schools, graduating in 1944. Bob worked on the family farm until he enlisted in the US Army in May of 1946. He was a military policeman stationed in Japan during World War II. After an honorary discharge, he returned to the Genesee area and started a life-long farming career. Bob worked with his father, Walter, on the home place and also south of Genesee on the Elliot Place (near the Shirrod Rock Pit). Bob did a lot of custom farming also. Bailing hay in the Lapwai area in his early years and continuing to bale and haul hay until the age of 84. Bob enjoyed haying so much it was like a hobby, or part of his recreational activities. Somehow that hobby did not pass on to his son Ron. He also did a lot of custom harvesting, owning one of the first self-propelled combines in the area, which he purchased for $1,250.00 On June 3, 1951 Bob married Vivian White of Pullman at St.
