Robert L. Abel, 87, of Fortville, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at his home. He was born November 20, 1925 in Vincennes to the late Robert and Mary (O’Brien) Abel. Robert served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the Fortville American Legion Post 391 and the LST Association. He retired from Ross Supermarkets, Muncie, in 1998, after working locally with Kroger, Eavey’s and Mace’s.
He is survived by his wife of more than 57 years, Allison (Mollenkopf) Abel; son Ron Abel of Fortville; daughter Mari (Steve) Quiggins of Fortville; daughter Audra (Joe) Tilton of Pendleton; sister; Carroll (Dave) Gilmore of Brownsburg; grandchildren: Lisa Shetterley; Stephanie Crispens; Holly, Brittani, Katie and Cameron Abel; Steve Jr., Mike and Danny Quiggins; and Emily and Andrew Tilton; and great-grandchildren: Gabriel, Hanna and Levi Shetterley; Haley and Kayla Abel; Ava Green; and Gannon and Jax Quiggins. He was preceded in death by his sons Robin and Brian Abel.
