Robert James Hurst, Sr., 95, passed away January 13, 2024 peacefully in his home surrounded by family and loved ones. He is predeceased by his parents, Luther J. Hurst and Kate Hudgins Hurst; and sister, Jean King.Robert grew up in Matthews County and Portsmouth, VA. He attended VPI and served in U.S.M.C. during the Korean war. He married Marie Turnage, the love of his life whom he adored from then to eternity. He was a pilot and loved flying his Cessna 152. He loved his 1953 Chris-Craft boat that he restored himself. Robert was proud of his children and grandchildren, and was especially fond of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.He is survived by his wife, Marie; children, Robert Hurst, Jr. (Lynne) of Lumberton, NC, Katie McCotter (Mike) of Suffolk, VA, Frances Medlin (Tim) of Clarksville, VA, and Jeanne Hornak (Chris) of Germany; 3 grandchildren, Robert Medlin, Corrine Quillian, and Adam Hornak; 2 great grandchildren, Stanley Quillian and Audry Medlin; nieces, Donna McAley and Freddie King; his cats, Sundae and Monday; and dear friend and caregiver, Eric Riley.
