Robert James Ginther Jr, age 64, of Wheatfield passed away unexpectedly Thursday, January 19, 2017 in Crown Point.

Robert was born on August 30, 1952 in Hammond, Indiana. He was the son of Robert Sr and Leona (Bonneau) Ginther. Robert was a graduate of Highland High School, Class of 1970. He was employed with Inland Steel as a field force rigger for 35 years and worked for T&M Equipment for 8 years. Robert married the love of his life, Beverly Gay (Surber) on January 1, 1999 in West Virginia.

Robert proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1970-1974. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Mary Catholic Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post #440, member of the United Steelworkers Union Local #1010, and ABATE. Robert loved his dog, Duece, and they hunted upland birds. The Chicago Cubs were a love he shared with his dad. He loved gardening and watching the birds.

Robert is survived by his wife: Beverly Ginther of Wheatfield; children: Andrew Surber of Huntington, WV; Katherine (Tad) Howard of Littleton, CO; Kristy (Dustin) Loeffler of Chicago, IL; 4 grandchildren: Ben, Hanna, Harper, and Olivia; siblings: Jackie (Hugh) Dorminy of Russellville, AR; Vonnie (Brian) Prime of Ontario, Canada; Deborah LaShorne of Greenwood, IN; and Laura (George) Braun of Haddam, CT. and a gaggle of nieces and nephews.
