Robert J. Connolly , 79

Troy Robert J. Connolly , 79 ,of 109th Street in Lansingburgh, died suddenly Saturday, December 4, 2004 at his residence.

Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Michael C. Connolly and Mary (Corcoran) Connolly and husband of the late Helen Siddons Connolly.

He was raised and educated in the Sheeps Head Bay area of Brooklyn and resided in Troy for the past 52 years.

Mr. Connolly was a steelworker at Altech Specialty Steel in Watervliet for 34 years retiring in 1987. Prior to that he worked at Con Edison Power Company in Brooklyn many years ago.

He was a member of the United Steelworkers of America. He loved playing handball and was always an active spectator of his grandsons, South Troy Pop Warner Football team, making more games than many parents. He also took care of his wife during her illness and was a Navy and Merchant Marine veteran of World War II.

He is survived by a daughter, Linda Canam (Merl) of Wynantskill; a son, Robert M. Connolly (Tracy) of Troy; a stepson, Frank Groff (Marge) of Ballston Spa; nine grandchildren, Tyler and Sarah Connolly and Michelle Eaton, Brian Canam and Pete, Heidi, Adam, Matt and Jacob Groff; two great grandchildren, Molly Eaton and Kiley Canam; a good friend, Bill Clark of North Troy and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sally Connolly and a sister, Ruth Dittert.
