Robert J. Chapman, 82, of Oglesby died Saturday, March 27, at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru. Mr. Chapman was born on December 21, 1927, in LaSalle to Merle and Frieda (Gielow) Chapman. He married Darlene Picco on June 24, 1950 at the Oglesby Union Church.
He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was employed as an Electrician at M & H Zinc Company, and later with IBEW until his retirement. He was a member of Jonesville Tabernacle, a volunteer fireman with the Oglesby Fire Department, LaSalle VFW, and IBEW.
He is survived by four daughters Teri Chapman, of Oglesby, Kathy (Richard ) Buckley of Seatonville, Shelby ( Randy ) Buckley of Marseilles, Denise Crouch of Peru, one son Robert ( Diane ) Chapman of Oglesby, 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, and two brothers, Clarence (Margaret) Chapman of Peru, and Ken (Sheila) Gielow, of Grand Ridge. He was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 15, 2010, 1 sister, 2 brothers, and one great-granddaughter.
