Robert James Callahan, age 74, Captain, New Haven Fire Dept. (ret.) of New Bern, N.C. passed away Feb. 22, 2018 in Carolina East Medical Center. He was born in New Haven May 11, 1943, son of the late William and Frances Callahan. He served in the US Army Reserves and was a member of the New Haven Fire Dept. from 1970 until he retired as a Captain in 1992.  He was commended by the Honorable Board of Fire Commissioners for his actions at a three alarm fire at 150 Davenport Avenue on Jan. 26, 1985 and shared in five Unit Citations during his career.. He was a member of American Legion Post 132 and served as Post Commander. He was a past member of the Knights of St. Patrick and was a lifetime member of the New Haven Fire Dept. Emerald Society. For a number of years, he was co-owner of Municipal Uniform and Supply on Middletown Ave. in North Haven. He served as chairman of the Memorabilia Committee for the 101st Annual State Firemen’s Convention hosted by the New Haven Fire Dept. in 1984.

He is survived by his loving wife and friend of 30 years, Annette Divilio Callahan; his devoted step daughter, Lisa (George) Keller of Monroe, CT. and the pride of his life, his granddaughter, Samantha Anne Keller. He is also survived by daughters, Deborah Morgan and Kelly Callahan.
