Robert I. Nichols , 76

West Sand Lake Robert I. Nichols , 76 ,of Route 150 West Sand Lake died Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a long illness.

Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Sanford Nichols and Margaret (Brack) Nichols. and husband for 54 years of Eleanor Dick Nichols.

He was raised in Rensselaer and had resided in the Burden Lake and West Sand Lake areas for over 40 years and was educated at Rensselaer schools.

Mr. Nichols was a self employed home builder for 40 years, retiring 14 years ago.

He was a member of East Greenbush Junior Chamber of Commerce and a Marine Corp veteran of World War II. He loved to hunt and fish and was an avid fan of the Yankees, Giants and Rangers, never missing a game.

Survivors in addition to his wife include four sons, William Nichols (Jean) of CA, James Nichols (Tracy) of Stephentown,, Ralph Nichols (Yoshemi) of OH and Robert Nichols (Paula) of Stephentown; a daughter, Susan White (John) of Red Hook, NY; a brother, Frank Nichols of San Diego, CA; a sister, Dorothy Hewitt (Jack) of Long Island; 11 grandchildren, Michelle, James, Jeremy, Jenny, Greg, Noel, Brian, Zachary, Drew, Luke and Jake; 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Sanford Nichols.
