Robert H. Butcher, age 73, of Tipton, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, February 3, 2020 at IU Health Tipton Hospital.

Robert was born in Tipton, IN on April 12, 1946 to Charles and Ocie (Fletcher) Butcher.  He married Helen Dullworth on November 11, 1990.  They shared 29 years of marriage and 36 years by each other’s side; she survives.

Robert was a 1964 graduate of Tipton High School.  He served six years in the National Guard.  As a young boy he worked on the farm with his dad where he learned his strong work ethic.  After graduating high school, he worked at Tool & Die.  He moved onto Chrysler where he retired after 40 years.

Robert was a man’s man, he was proud of the grease under his fingernails because that meant he was working hard and doing what he loved so much; fixing gas engines.  He could fix any gas engine from tractors to golf carts.  Robert was incredibly handy around the garage and house.  He could build a house from the bottom up.  When he wasn’t fixing things, he enjoyed fishing and taking the kids for rides in the golf cart.

He enjoyed sports; he was always in the stands supporting his grandchildren at their school sports. His grandson Grant plays football for IU and while Robert was unable to attend his games due to his health, he was always excited to watch his games on TV.  Robert loved the Indiana Pacers and Indianapolis Colts and watched them religiously!  He was also the biggest race fan of Jeff Gordon Nascar.

Robert will be missed for many things but most of all for his sweet spirit.  He was a true humanitarian, a giver.  He was always giving of himself to others, the type of person that never knew a stranger; if you were a stranger, it wasn’t for too long!

Those left to carry on Robert’s legacy of love are his wife Helen Butcher; Son Brad (Tandy) Butcher; Daughters Lorrann (Steve) Dwiggins, Holly (Brent) Gremel-Schmidt, and Della Denham; Grandchildren Charez Butcher, Ashley Rybck, Hailey Schroeder, Grant Gremel, Kyraha Denham, Kamon Denham, Brady Schmidt, and Carter Schmidt; Great-Grandchildren Wyatt Dwiggins and Kadence Rybck; Great-Great-Grandchildren Ryder Dwiggins and Ryker Oliver; Sister Susie (Phil) Fetcher; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert’s family would like to give a special thanks to two very special friends Nadine and Larry Ripberger; niece Michele (Kenny) Brown and Uncle Doug Dulworth.  Another special thanks to Guardian Angel Hospice for the amazing care they showed Robert.

Helen Butcher wants her children and grandchildren, especially Hailey, to know how much she appreciates all they have done to help her and Robert during his illness.  She would be lost without her rocks to lean on.
