Robert Glenn (Bob) Smith, 87, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021, in Boerne, Texas.

Robert Glenn Smith was born in Twigg Township, Hamilton County Illinois, to Roy F. and Vakel M. (Cluck) Smith, on January 16, 1934. He attended grade school at a one room country school and graduated from McLeansboro Township High School with the class of 1952. After high school he worked in the oilfields of Kansas and Oklahoma. In 1955 he was drafted into the US Navy. After his hitch in the Navy, he worked as a guard at the Illinois State Prison at Joliet, Illinois, until work opened up in the oilfields, where he worked in Colorado and Wyoming, until he signed up for a hitch in the US Army. In 1963 he went back to the oilfields of the Rocky Mountain area, settling in Sidney, Montana. He went back and forth to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. In 1972 Bob married Celia Chavez. They remained in Sidney until 1974 and then moved to Laredo, Texas where they made their permanent home. After working for Loffland Brothers Drilling Co. and Brown Oil Tools, he got on with HNG which became Enron Oil and Gas, and retired from Enron after many years in the industry. 

Bob is survived by his son, James R. Smith and wife Amber of Boerne; his grandsons, Roy and Justin Smith, also of Boerne; four great-grandchildren; and his younger brother, Walter Smith of Billings, Montana. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Celia; his parents, Roy and Vakel; his sisters, Nina Lee, who died at birth, Hazel Modell Parker, Ella Mae Johnson, Essie Faye Sisk, Laura Belle Flannigan, and Betty Lea Hardt; and his brother, John Smith.
