Robert Gene Sprowl, age 63, of Salem, died at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014 in the emergency room at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. He was born September 22, 1950 in Salem, Ohio, son of Delores (Sprowl) Rance and the late George Rance Sr. Before his retirement, he had worked at Hickey Metal Fabrication as a fab worker for 7 years and had formerly worked at Peoples Lumber as a cabinetmaker for 34 years. He was a 1968 graduate of Salem High School. He enjoyed life, loved camping, fishing, motorcycle riding and his retirement. Survivors include his mother, Delores Rance of Salem; two sons, Robert (Rene) Sprowl of Salem and Rodney Sprowl of Salem; a daughter, Pamela Sprowl of Sebring; two sisters, Rose (John) Sikora of Buckannon, West Virginia and Beth Rance of Lisbon; two brothers, George (Sandy) Rance Jr. of Atwater and Joseph (Penny) Rance of Salem; and five grandchildren, Companion Mercedes Hite of 21 years and her children, Porsche “Hite” Bailey of Madison, VA; Emma “Hite” Emerson of Los Angeles; Leah “Hite” Shenot of Wexford, PA and Alyssa “Hite” Miller of Kensington, Ohio. A brother, Michael Rance also preceded him in death.
