Garner, Jr. , Robert (Bob) Maxwell, age 79, of Birmingham, AL, passed away December 18, 2012. He was a pioneer in the Cable Industry, having built 21 Cable Systems in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Mr. Garner constructed the first cable in Gulf Shores, AL in the 1980’s, shortly after Hurricane Fredrick. He graduated from Ramsay High School and shortly afterward, began his career repairing radios and televisions. He earned his “FCC First Class License”, in which he took great pride. He worked for WYDE Radio Station in the 50’s, Jerrold Electronics, based in Philadelphia, PA, in the 60’s’ and 70’s, General Cable in the early 80’s, and Wireless Cable Industry in the 90’s, which required extensive international travel. Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father, Martha Novella Duckworth and Robert Maxwell Garner, Sr.; daughters, Brenda Diane Garner and Patricia Ann Garner. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Wade Garner; 3 sons, Robert Maxwell Garner III (Ruth); William Hamilton Garner (Ann); and Phillip Lee Garner; stepsons, Claude Eugene Eades, Jr. (Jane); James Ronald Eades (Margo) stepdaughter, Rosemary Eades Holcomb (Johnny); 11 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Bob was a member of South Highland Presbyterian Church. He attended Third Presbyterian Church as a youth, went through the Confirmation Class.
