Robert G. Hildebrand, 89, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2006, in his home.
He was born on December 06, 1916, in South Bend, to the late Guy S. and Eva Marie (McCombs) Hildebrand, and was a lifelong area resident.
On July 18, 1942, in South Bend, he married Helen M. Grunwald, who survives.
Along with his loving wife of 63 years, he is survived by his daughters, Pamela A. (William H.) Block of South Bend and Louise M. Hildebrand of New York, NY; and his sons, Alan T. Hildebrand of Granger, IN and James R. Hildebrand of New Orleans, LA; and by his brother, Ted Hildebrand of Chesterfield, IN. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William “Jack” Hildebrand.
Mr. Hildebrand worked for Bendix/Allied Signal for nearly forty years, as a toolmaker, before retiring in 1982.
Robert had a passion for automobiles. If he wasn’t driving a car he was either underneath working on it, or cleaning the car. He also had a great love for animals, especially his two dogs, Tar and Fritzi. He made a daily practice to feed the wildlife at his home. Robert was a hard working man who strove for perfection. He was very mechanically inclined and always embraced a challenge. He was a humble and gentle man who loved his family.
