Robert Clinton “Fiddler” Johnston Jr., 78, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016 in Danville, Indiana. He was born June 12, 1938 in New Maysville, Indiana.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a supervisor at JC Products.

“Fiddler” was a blue grass musician. He played his fiddle with many well-known country artists. Robert was inducted into the Bill Monroe Blue Grass Hall of Fame on June 17, 2008. “Bobby” (as he was also known) enjoyed fishing, gardening, yard-work, and was a master storyteller.

Robert was a life-long member of the Indianapolis Masonic Lodge #669.

He is survived by five children, Diana Lawhorn of Roachdale, Roberta (Daniel) Wessel of Camby, Robert C. (Trudy) Johnston III of Indianapolis, Richard “Rick” (Cammie) Johnston of Coatesville, and Debbie (Allan) Mehl of Indianapolis, 14 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

“Fiddler” was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Johnston in February of 2016, his mother, Stella (Long) Cartherhauser, his father, Robert C. Johnston Sr., and a son, William Johnston.
