Robert F. Harlow, 80, of Cambridge, NY, formerly of Plainville, passed away with his family by his side, on Friday, August 5, 2011 in Bennington, VT.
Bb was born in New Britain on June 6, 1931, the son of the late Forrest and Mary (Morrow) Harlow. A longtime resident of Plainville, he was a graduate of Plainville High School, and employee at General Electric, retiring as a sales engineer after 39 years. Bob served his country for 2 years in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was discharged in 1952. An outdoors enthusiast, Bob, along with his friends and his son, Bobby, spent many years fishing along the Battenkill River in Cambridge and bird hunting with his Springer Spaniels, that he always named “Patrick”. Bob was reunited after 42 years with his high school friend, Rita (Cassile), whom he married only two months later on Valentine’s Day, 1995. They shared sixteen wonderful years together and made Cambridge their permanent residence in the “camp” Bob purchased in 1975.
Proud of his genealogy, Bob was a 10th generation Harlow, and member of the Sergeant William Harlow Association in Plymouth, MA, and was an active member of the Captain Maxson Posat #634 American Legion.
In addition to his beloved wife, Rita, he leaves his daughter-in-law, Patty Harlow and his grandson, Jason Harlow of Southington; his stepchildren, Gary McLellan and friend, Becky of TX, Greg McLellan and his wife, Janice of Southington, and Robin Widger of Willington; 6 step-grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Kelly, Murray, Justin, and Devin; his great-grandson, Austin and his half sister, Judy Gould of ME. He was predeceased by his son, Robert C. Harlow in 2007.
Family and friends may gather in celebration of Bob’s life on Thursday, from 2-4 p.m.
