Robert Eugene “Moon” Mullens, Sr., 81, of Jacksonville, passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, May 19, 2016.
Moon was born September 20, 1934, in Jacksonville to Anderson and Isabella (Safely) Mullens. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1953. He served proudly in the United States Army from 1957-1961, stationed stateside and in Germany. Upon returning to Illinois, Moon began his forty-eight year career with Kraft Foods (formerly Mrs. Tucker’s, Anderson Clayton, AC Humco). Moon loved to work and did so full-time until the age of 75. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles.
Moon is survived by his wife, Joyce Marie Lear Mullens; his sons, Robert “Moon” Mullens, Jr. (special friend, Donna Drummond Cannon) and Richard “Rick” Mullens; children through marriage Becky Marks (husband Terry Marks Sr.), Verna Riccaboni-King (husband Francis “Rusty” Riccaboni), Gary King, Stacey King, Ronnie Ohl (wife Sally Giarrante-Ohl) and Randy Ohl (wife Dawn Ohl); grandchildren Jeremy Mullens, Brad Mullens, and Shannen Mullens as well as twelve grandchildren by marriage and nine great grandchildren.
Moon is also survived by his sister, Maggie Dalton Herzberger (husband Alan Herzberger), and brother, John Mullens Sr. (wife Patricia Mullens); many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Rocco.
