Robert Edwin Boot of Kalamazoo, South Haven, and Naples, FL died on his birthday January 2, 2011 in the promise of eternal life through his Lord Jesus Christ. At his side were his loving wife Marjorie and his three children Sheri, Susan and Scott. Bob was born January 2, 1929 in Kalamazoo to Henry and Ada Boot. He graduated from Battle Creek’s Lakeview High School in 1946 and from his treasured alma mater Calvin College in 1950. He met his wife of 60 years at Calvin. They lived in Kalamazoo for over 50 years before retiring to South Haven and Naples, FL. Bob joined Keyser Insurance Agency prior to starting his own business the Robert E. Boot Agency. Bob’s life centered around his Christian faith, family and friends.
He served as a deacon and an elder at Third Christian Reformed Church and as Board President of both Kalamazoo Christian High School and South Christian Grade School. Respected in the business world for his insurance acumen and integrity, Bob received numerous awards and served on the board of Michigan Independent Insurance Agents. A longtime member of the Kalamazoo Country Club, Bob was an avid and accomplished golfer with 5 hole-in-ones to his credit. He loved to spend time with his family at “the cottage” where he enjoyed sitting on the deck overlooking Lake Michigan and sharing his beliefs, the news and sports with everyone. Bob was passionate about Christian education and avidly supported both Calvin College and the Kalamazoo Christian Schools.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie; daughters Sheri Chuck Ippel of Grand Rapids, MI and Susan Boot-Meyerer of Sandia Park, NM; son, Scott Sue Boot of Kalamazoo, MI; eight grandchildren – Seth Mary and Eric Triezenberg; Kysa and Cory Meyerer; Erinn Dan Hoekstra, Christopher Erin, Caitlin and Marta Boot; and four great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his brother John Boot, while his grandson Robert Alan and beloved brother Dean Marcia Boot preceded him in death and are waiting for Bob in heaven.
