Robert Edward Wheeler, 88, of Richmond, VA and formerly of Martinsville, VA died Thursday, January 28, 2010 at HCR Manorcare Assisted Living, Richmond, VA. He was born on September 5, 1921 in High Point, NC to the late Benjamin Franklin Wheeler and Julia Myers Wheeler. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Walsie DeLong Wheeler; an infant daughter, Lew Robin Wheeler; a son, John Kevin Wheeler and a brother, Dr. James Fredrick Wheeler DVM. Mr. Wheeler was a member of the First Baptist Church of Martinsville, VA and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a retired millwright from E. I. DuPont, Inc. with 40 years service. Also, he was a member of the Martinsville Rose Society and volunteered for Hospice of Martinsville/Henry County. Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Wheeler Dame and Don R. Dame; Pamela Wheeler Barkovich and Thomas Barkovich all of Richmond, VA and Amy Lynne Wheeler of Axton, VA and two grandchildren, Richard W. Dame, II and Lesley Ann Dame.
