Robert Cechowicz, 81, of Oak Park, Illinois, formerly of Ottawa, died Sunday morning, July 8, in Oak Park. Mr. Cechowicz was born in 1925 in Dowagiac, Michigan to Joseph W. and Verna (Zellak) Cechowicz. He attended Western Michigan University.

He was a Navy Veteran of WWII, serving in the South Pacific Theater of Operations on the USS Lacerta. He married Lois Pullen on June 21, 1945, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Mr. Cechowicz worked in retail management for 42 years at J. C. Penney, Sears, and Berners. He owned operated Emrick and Mason in Downtown Ottawa from 1962 to 1976.

Mr. Cechowicz was a member of St. Columba Church, the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce , the Ottawa Knights of Columbus #634, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 960, the Ottawa Retail Council, Greater Ottawa, and a former member of the Ottawa Rotary Club.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Kris (Robert) Villari, of Oak Park, two sons, Dr. Joel (Linda) Cechowicz, of Ottawa, and Curt Cechowicz, of Oak Park, 4 grandchildren, Danielle Villari Swets, Courtney Villari, Jeffrey and Nicholas Cechowicz, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen.
