Roberto Docuyanan Lesaca was born on April 28, 1942 in Zambales, Philippines, under a mango tree while his mother was fleeing to the mountains during WW2. He was born to Miguela Docuyanan and Manuel Lesaca, son of the Zambales governor.

Roberto attended Botolan High School, and then graduated from Zambales High School, when he relocated.

He then moved to Manila to attend Arellano University to pursue engineering. However, during his stage theater performances from drama class, he was scouted by Sampaguita Pictures, a Philippine film production company. He later moved onto Premiere Productions under Tamaraw Studios, Philippine Motion Pictures. He was featured in the films Mama’s Boy and Magnum.

While growing in the entertainment industry, his friend convinced him to enlist in the US Navy. Roberto past all the required examinations, left his budding acting career and moved onto his next adventure.

On August 9, 1963, Roberto joined the US Navy. He was trained at Pointe Loma, San Diego. He received his Dolphin pin, qualifying him to serve aboard submarines. On April 13, 1964, he was assigned to serve on board the USS Charr SS 328. Then on April 4, 1969, he transferred aboard the USS Razorback SS 394, where he served his remaining years in the Navy. “Doc,” as his shipmates nicknamed him, received excellent reviews and ongoing recommendations for promotion from his Commanding Officers.
