Robert Dennis “Bob” “Dr. Bob” Cooper, 72, of Lehigh Acres, FL, and formerly of Springfield, IL, passed away on August 19, 2017, after complications from an AVM stroke.

Bob was born January 23, 1945, in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Whiting High School in 1963 and pursued many various certifications throughout his life.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran, Vietnam War and retired as a Broadcast Engineer for WICS ABC News Channel 20 in Springfield.

He was the son of Penny Wojtanek (nee Johnson) and his step-father Vincent Schauer of Chicago, IL.  On June 11, 2004, he married Marilyn Kay Lambert-Johnson of Jacksonville, IL.

Surviving are his loving wife, Marilyn Kay Cooper; daughter, Michelle (Brad) Cooper Allen of Minooka, IL.; step-daughter, Tina Bracy (Hacene Benchikha) of San Antonio, TX; step-daughter, Brandy (Jason) Lee of Chatham, IL; his grandchildren, Aidan and Alex Allen, Tess and Tate Bracy and Erin Lee.  Also surviving are his mother, Penny Wojtanek; brother, David (Sue) Cooper of Hobart, IN; brother, the Rev. Richard (Kathy) Schauer of Tinley Park, IL; and sister, Robin (Rich) Anderson of Lockport, IL.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Renee Cooper; his step-father, Vincent Schauer; and his brother Larry Cooper.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He enjoyed cooking, traveling the world and growing his many orchids and other exotic plants. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Stroke Association.
