Anderson – Robert Dale Knuckles, 63, Anderson, died November 30, 2004, at Ball Memorial Hospital-Muncie after a brief illness.

He was born January 25, 1941 in Michigan, and had been an Anderson resident since moving here from Venice, Florida in 1965. He retired in 1996 from the Anderson Police Department as a Lieutenant after 30 years of service. He had served as Shift Commander, Traffic Commissioner, and Public Affairs Division Commissioner.

He was a graduate of Sarasota High School in Sarasota, Florida. He graduated from Anderson University with a degree in Criminal Justice and Public Administration, University of Kentucky with a degree in Industrial Security Management and Crime Prevention and Southern Police Institute. He had over 2000 hours of Criminal Investigation shooling at Indiana University and other police training seminars. He served his country in the US Navy.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he once served as the youth director. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was active in various civic and community organizations including, the Mayor’s Task Force on Unemployment. He was founder, director, and advisor of an all Eagle Scout Explorer Post of the Anderson Police Department and advisor to Retirement Housing Foundation. He was on the Board of Directors for the Gruenwald Historical Home and the Anderson Pal Club. He was past president of the Madison County Historical Society. He was a substitute teacher in the Anderson Community School System.

He is survived by his wife whom he married on April 15, 1967, in Anderson at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Tamra L. Ewald Knuckles; two sons, Robert D. Knuckles II & wife Kathryn Snodgrass of Fishers and Christopher L. Knuckles & wife Carrie Schul of Noblesville; brothers and sisters, Gary & wife Dorothy Knuckles, Don & wife Shelley Knuckles, Patti Ann & husband Jim Davis all of Florida, Jim Knuckles of Massachusetts and Jeff Knuckles of Colorado; mother-in-law, Helen M. Ewald of Anderson; brother & sister-in-law, Erich & MaryLee Ewald of Anderson; five grandchildren, Ryan, Rachel, Megan, Alexander, and Zachary; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents, Millard ”Jack” & Leona C. Knuckles.
