Dr. Robert D. Pomije, 90, of Peru passed away at 10:40 AM on March 23, 2016 in the Illinois Veteran’s Home at La Salle.
Dr. Robert Pomije was born in New Prague, MN on October 17, 1925 to Benjamin and Mary (O’Connell) Pomije. He was a graduate of New Prague High School Class of 1943, served in the Army Air Force from 1944 to 1946. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from St.
Robert was a teacher and coach at New Prague High School from 1950 to 1958. He was principal and assistant district superintendent at Burnsville High School in Burnsville, MN from 1958 to 1971. In 1966-1967, while on sabbatical leave, he served as full time instructor at the University of Minnesota. In January of 1971, Dr. Pomije began his career as superintendent of La Salle-Peru Township High School, and served there until his retirement in July 1994. He was preceded in death by his first two wives, son Robert Darryl Pomije in 2001, daughters Arlene Marie Pomije in 2011 and Sharon Olson in 2014, daughter Michelle in infancy, stepson Jeffrey Kalina in 2006, stepdaughter Katie (Chaon) Cloutier in 2009, sister Joan Berti, and brothers Patrick in infancy, Henry, Michael, and twin brother Ralph.
