Robert D. Jones, Jr., 90, of Bethlehem Township, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at St. Luke’s University Hospital, Fountain Hill. He was the husband of the late Veleda (Green) Jones, who died in 2006.
Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Robert D. and Annie (Welty) Jones, Sr. He joined Bethlehem Steel Corp at the age of 16, and then was drafted and served his country in the US Marine Corps at the conclusion of WWII. He returned to work for Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 46 years, working in the Electrical Repair Shop for his entire career. Robert was a former member of the MORA Club, and also enjoyed volunteering at Muhlenberg Hospital. He was a coin collector, and enjoyed listening to music, particularly Big Band and Frank Sinatra. He was also very involved with his late son in Special Olympics events, and travelled extensively to participate in and support them.
Survivors: daughter Lonnie Votral and her husband Thomas of Bethlehem; sons Robert D. Jones, III, and his wife Cathy of Macungie, Brian Jones of Hummeltown; grandchildren Todd, Beth Anne, Michael, Melissa and Meghan; 11 great-grandchildren. Robert was predeceased by his son, Wayne Jones, and his sisters Margaret Grube, Evelyn Bair, and Myrtle Jones.
