Robert D. Hoover, 73, of Mishawaka, IN, died at 11:15am Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at the scene of an automobile accident, near S.R. 23 and Heritage Square Drive in Mishawaka, IN.

He was born on August 25, 1933 to the late Clarence and Edna (Oswalt) Hoover in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. Along with his parents; one sister, Marguerite Martin also preceded him in death.

Mr. Hoover worked at the Bendix Corporation, which later became Allied Signal, for many years.

He married Eleanor Tompkins, who preceded him in death in 1980.

He is survived by his fiance, Joan Horvath of Mishawaka, IN; two daughters, Kimberly Hoover of South Bend, IN; Vicky Hoover of Rockford, IL; one son, Richard Hoover of Mishawaka, IN; seven grandchildren, Ricky Hoover; Tori Hoover; Sammy Dux; Angelia Easton; Alexander Easton III; Eleanor Easton; Michael Steward; one sister, Evelyn Fogaras of Sumner, WA; and two brothers, John Hoover, Sr. of South Carolina; and Donald Hoover of Ocala, Florida.

Mr. Hoover was a former member of the Elks Lodge in Florida; and former member of The Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge in Elkhart, IN. He was a 30 year member of the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agriculture Implement Workers of America-Bendix Local No. 9. Robert was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his expertise and building knowledge of the Blackbird Military Aircraft, where he was the only person in the world who was able to build one. Mr. Hoover was a U.S. Navy Veteran, where he served from 1955  1961; and was an automobile enthusiast.
