Robert G. “Harv” Chapman, age 74 of Rensselaer, Indiana, passed away peacefully February 10, 2017 at his home.
Robert was born in Rensselaer, Indiana on October 19, 1942, the son of Seffie L. (Melton) and Walter M. Chapman. On October 19, 1973, he married Aloma C. Leviner in Dillon, South Carolina and she preceded him in death on June 13, 2013. Harv graduated from Rensselaer High School, the Class of 1960. He worked as a Crane Operator and O.C.A.W. Local 7-1 Union Representative for 23 years at BP-Amoco in Whiting, Indiana and was also formerly employed as a Foreman with Suburban Homes for 13 years.
Harv was a proud veteran of the US Army where he served in the Vietnam War. He held memberships in both, the V.F.W. Post #1279 and the American Legion Post #29. Harv was an enthusiastic Toxophilite, a person who is fond or an expert at archery. He was a member of the Iroquois Archery & Conservation Club and is a former Indiana State Archery Champion. He also enjoyed cooking and grilling and spending time with his grandchildren.
Harv is survived by four children; Robert B. Chapman, Connie Chapman, Marilyn (Randy) Hackney & John W. Chapman, all of Rensselaer. Also surviving are five brothers, William “Bill” M. Chapman & Charles “Chuck” (Marie) Chapman, Larry (Mary Sue) Chapman, Roger (Carol) Chapman, Steve (Susan) Chapman,two sisters, Geraldine (George) Clouse & Judith “Judy” (Ralph) Rosenkranz, 12 – grandchildren & 5 – great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, 3 brothers & 1 sister.
