Robert C. Gaus, 91, of Peru, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru. Mr. Gaus was born July 2, 1926 in Peru to Albert and Ann (Schmidt) Gaus. He was a graduate of LaSalle-Peru High School and took maintenance courses at Illinois Valley Community College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Leyte, Philippines during World War II. Mr. Gaus married Victoria Febles on April 23, 1964 in Miami, Florida.
He worked as a maintenance man at Bakelite in Ottawa for over 39 years. He was a member of the Peru Veterans Memorial Group serving as bugler and on the firing squad. He was also a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Peru and was a past member of the Illinois Valley Flying Club, South Shore Boat Club and Circum navigators Club in New York City.
Survivors include two step-daughters, Nancy Reed and Susan Spaulding both of Florida; three step-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild; one sister, Marjorie Schepp of Peru and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Victoria on October 30, 2009; one sister, Marion McBride and his brother, Raymond Gaus.
