Robert Curtis, 89, passed away October 13, 2014 at the Lucas County Health Center.

Robert was born December 18, 1924 in Ottumwa, IA to Homer and Fern (Carson) Curtis.  He attended and graduated from Chariton High School.  Following his senior year in high school, he was named the Future Farmer of America and traveled to Kansas City, MO for his award.

He met Mildred Lucille Anderson during high school in Chariton, and they were married on September 30, 1945.  To this union four daughters were born:  Sharon Powell, Kathy Laing, Joan Curtis and Jan Curtis.

Bob and Mildred lived and farmed the family’s Century Farm for many years.  In 1967, Bob became the Lucas County Assessor.  He served in this capacity until he retired in 1990.  After retirement, he volunteered with RSVP, Chariton Senior Center, Lucas County Historical Museum, Pin Oak Marsh and the Crisis Center, to name a few.

His greatest joys were with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Bob looked forward to the times that his family was all together.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; brother, Gerald; and his parents.
