Robert A. Burkhart, 91, of LaSalle, formerly of Peru, passed away Friday, December 14, 2018 at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley.
Full military rites will be conducted by the Peru Veterans Memorial Group. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home in Peru. Mr. Burkhart was born on October 23, 1927 in Peru to Anthony and Marie (Alberts) Burkhart. He married Ellen Ellena on December 1, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church in Granville. Bob was committed to serving his country, having served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the General Headquarters Division under General Douglas MacAthur in Tokyo. Bob was a barber for 49 years, having owned Bob’s Barber Shop in Peru for 47 years. He was a life member and past commander of the Peru VFW, and was a member of the Peru Eagles Club and the Illinois Valley YMCA.
He is survived by his three children, Daniel (Helen) Burkhart of LaSalle, Rebecca (Jeff) Bertrand of Pontiac and Amy (David) Rutherford of Spring Valley; five grandchildren, Jeffrey (Danielle) Bertrand, Andrea Bertrand, Courtney Burkhart, Cassie Burkhart and Travis Rutherford and two great-grandchildren, Tegan Rutherford and Norah Bertrand. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellen on January 24, 2018 and two sisters, Marie Pepin and Lois Muir.
