Brunswick -Robert M. ‘Bobster’ Hayden, Sr., 74, passed November 5, 2017 at Albany Medical Center Hospital, peacefully, comforted by his family and his faith after many years of illness. Born in 1943, Robert was the son of the late John and Catherine Hayden.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 52 years, Carol, daughter, Lisa McDonald (Todd,) and son Robert Jr. (Kris). He was a wonderful Papa to his grandchildren, Kelly, Keegan and Jameson McDonald, Ryan, Cailyn and Morgan Hayden, who were his sunshine on a cloudy day. He is also survived by his devoted sister, Kathleen Mrozak (Jack). He was predeceased by his brother, John Hayden, Jr.. The Bobster was blessed with a large extended family that included in-laws, nieces, nephews, and life-long friends.
Robert graduated from Sacred Heart School, LaSalle Institute, St Michael’s College, and SUNY Albany, having achieved a Masters of Public Administration degree.
He spent his entire professional career in public service, beginning as a probation officer and retiring as Director of the Rensselaer County Probation Department, retiring in 2005.
Robert was a devoted fan for whatever team, sport or activity in which his grandchildren participated and the Boston Red Sox. He loved traveling to Maine, Cape Cod, Florida, and the Saratoga Race Course.
Robert was the beneficiary of compassionate, expert care throughout his prolonged illness and his family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Albany Medical Center CCU, C8 and Medical Cardiology units. Much appreciation to Dr. Keith Rebehn, Dr. Andrew Macina, Dr. Sullenberger, and Dr. Heineke for their dedication, knowledge and guidance over the years.
