Robert W. “Bob” Brandon, 92, died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Hubbard Hill Estates, Elkhart.
He was born Dec. 30, 1919, to Ernest and Tressa Brandon in Elkhart. He married Margaret Ort on Feb. 3, 1946, in Elkhart. She died March 25, 2008.
Survivors include one daughter, Beth (Todi) Velkoff; one granddaughter, Janelle Velkoff; a sister, Louise Roush; and a brother, Louis Brandon, all of Elkhart.
He graduated in 1938 from Concord High School and in 1947 from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged as a captain after serving in the European theater.
Bob was employed by Texas Gas Transmission Corporation, headquartered in Owensboro, Ky. He was vice president and treasurer for a number of years and prior to his retirement in 1984, he served as vice president and controller. Professionally, he was a member of the Independent Natural Gas Association of America and the American Gas Association. He had also served on several accounting committees. As an active participant in his community, he was a former member of the Salvation Army advisory board and the American Red Cross board of directors, serving the Owensboro area.
Bob was an avid IU supporter and enjoyed golf after his retirement. He was known for his laughing eyes and entertaining stories. He was a member of Settle Memorial Methodist Church in Owensboro and First United Methodist Church in Elkhart.
