Robert B. Massengill, age 94, Anderson, went to his rest in Jesus, following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Robert, the oldest of six boys, was born to Otis & Lacy Whisenand Massengill at Bloomington, Indiana on September 19, 1913. A product of Christian Education, Robert graduated from Indiana Academy, Cicero, Indiana in 1932.

He married Kathryn Trimble of Alexandria, Indiana in 1937, and they began a wonderful 64 years of marriage, which ended with her death in 2002. For many years, Bob & Kate were the owners/operators of the first full-service home medical supply business in Anderson, “Massengill’s Sickroom Supplies”. They left Anderson for Palmetto, Florida in 1972, where they remained for 27 years, returning to Anderson in 1999.

Throughout his life, Bob was a constant and stable influence for good in hundreds of lives, sharing the love of Jesus with everyone. He served as a Deacon, Elder, Young People’s Leader, Building Committee and Board Member of the local Seventh-day Adventist Church. In the 1950s-1960s, he served as a lay Pastor at the Indiana Reformatory in Pendleton.

He and Kate brought parolees and former prisoners into their home, assisting them with jobs and housing until they could do that for themselves. Even in the 1980s and 1990s, he was daily visiting the sick, assisting the elderly, and praying with those in need. For the last 5 years, the children of Cross Street Christian School could always count on seeing Robert on the garden tractor, mowing the 10 acres at the school. He shared with everyone else that which he had received in blessings.

He will be greatly missed by his family, his Church family, friends, and neighbors. Left cherishing his memory are his two children, Tom Dottie Massengill of Ocala, Florida and Sandra Brent Schalk of Anderson; brother, Max Betty Massengill of Palmetto, Florida; brother-in-law, Robert Callie Trimble of Apopka, Florida; grandchildren, Tim Renee Massengill, Donita Mike Shaw, Bunni Tim Pounds and Sunni Ed Roaten; step-grandchildren, Bryce Schalk, Holly Schalk, Angela Burkholder and Melody Matthew Pacer; 2 great grandchildren, Israel & Benjamin Pounds, and 3 step- great grandchildren, Spencer & Madeline Burkholder and Abigail Warren; many nieces, nephews and special friend, Ruth Lawson.
