Mr. Robert A. Brunnemer, of Greenwood, passed away and went to be with the Lord in Heaven on the early afternoon of April 17, 2020. He was 92. He was born in Indianapolis on July 6, 1927 and was the only son of the late Louis and Elizabeth (Brewer) Brunnemer. For a short time, he lived in Morgantown, Indiana, but spent the majority of his life in Indianapolis.
After graduating from Southport High School, Bob proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during WWII from 1945 to 1949, serving mainly in the Pacific. It was during the War that he met his wife, Virginia Poole. While on a 52-day leave from the Marines, they were married July 12, 1947 (after knowing each other for only 24 days!!) and immediately moved to California. It had to be love at first sight! In 1949, they returned to Indiana. Soon afterward, Bob built their home on the Southside of Indianapolis (he dug the footers, laid the bricks, and practically everything else in his spare time.) This is where Bob and Ginnie raised their three children and lived for 57 years.
Bob was employed by the Wm. H. Block Company for 45 years and started as a mechanic and then as a package delivery driver.
Through the years, his loves included the following: coaching his son’s baseball teams, camping, playing golf, vacationing in Florida, playing cards and dominos, woodworking, and attending anything his granddaughters were involved in. In addition, he loved telling stories – whether it was from his childhood, his years in the military, or from his knowledge of the Bible. Bob was a special man, a kind and gentle soul who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bob is survived by his wife of 73 years, Virginia Brunnemer as well as his three children, Robert W. (Carolyn) Brunnemer, Sondra (Mike) Love and Brent (Tammie) Brunnemer. He also had four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
