Rita S. Vito
Rita S. Vito, age 83, of Rome, passed away suddenly on December 14, 2012, while traveling in Florida.
She was born August 26, 1929, in St. Gallen, Switzerland, the daughter of the late Gotlieb and Ida Whidmer Schild. Rita was united in marriage to Ralph F. Vito, on August 6, 1955, in St. Mary of the Assumption Church; he died January 22, 2002. She was a pioneer in the early days of computers and computer programming. She worked for several years in computer programming for Oneida Madison BOCES and later at Griffiss Air Force Base. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church.
Rita was very proud of her Swiss heritage and always attended the Swiss Festivals in the Adirondacks. She loved traveling, especially to Florida; was an avid knitter and enjoyed listening to Swiss music.
Rita is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Rene and Thomas Burgess of Jamesville, and Susan Campanaro-Murphy and Robert of Rome; a son and daughter in law, Ralph John and Patricia Vito of Constableville; grandchildren, T. Scott Burgess, Tara and her husband Brigham Booher, Charissa Campanaro and Katherine Vito; step grandchildren, Cory Murphy and his wife, Kayla, Erin Murphy, Emily Murphy, and Ryan Murphy, Paul Conover, Chandler Aldrich and Destany Aldrich; great grandchildren, Amelia, Faith, and Abraham Booher; special friend Walter VonMatt of Lee Center; and sisters in law, Concetta Ruta of Rome and Mozelle Vito of Verona.
