Rita M. Horvath, 83, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2006, in Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend. Rita was born on May 28, 1922, in South Bend, to the late Bert M. and Helen (Kajzer) Gadacz, and was a lifelong area resident.
On May 25, 1946, as Rita M. Gadacz, she married Joseph J. Horvath, who preceded her in death on March 5, 1968. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Ann Gadacz, who died as an infant. Mrs. Horvath is survived by her daughter, Ann (Dave) Morgan of South Bend; her son, Michael J. (Barbara) Horvath of Bloomington, Indiana; five grandchildren, Andrea (Mike) Tritinger of St. Louis, Missouri, Amanda Horvath of Norman, Oklahoma, David Horvath of Fishers, Indiana, Aaron (Carie) Morgan and Kyle Morgan of South Bend; and by her great-grandson, Eli Tritinger.
Rita worked as an office manager at Stewart Sandwiches, Inc. for 15 years, before retiring in July 1987. She was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where she was active in the altar and rosary society and the retirees club. She loved to walk and see her friends at the Loftus Center at Notre Dame. Rita was an avid Notre Dame sports fan and was very happy to see her beloved Chicago White Sox win the Wolrd Series Championship in 2005, something that she had waited her whole life to see. Above all, she enjoyed her family, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandson. Rita was very proud of the fact that she experienced her family branch into a fourth generation.
