Ricky Thomas Cyrus, 58, of Amherst, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012, at his home. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Julia Faye Staton Cyrus. Born November 16, 1953 in Lynchburg, he was the son of Lorene Henson Cyrus and the late Clifton T. Cyrus of Madison Heights. He worked as a project manager for Blossman Propane in Berryville, VA. He served his community for many years as a volunteer for the Amherst Fire Department and as a lifetime member of the Amherst Life Saving Crew. He held many positions at Piney River Moose Lodge #2032, including serving as governor from 2007 – 2010. His efforts earned him the Fellowship Degree of Honor from the Loyal Order of Moose. Ricky enjoyed fishing with his grandkids, and a good round of golf. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Vanessa and Matthew Davis, of Stephens City; two grandchildren, Breannon Faye Davis and Lleyton Thomas Christopher Davis; a sister, Marie Stickel and husband, Wayne, of Rustburg; four “sisters”, Carnell White and husband, Jimmy of Quinton; Bettie Austin and husband, Donald; Linda Johnson and husband, Tommy; Sue Fauber and husband, Randy, all of Amherst; one “brother”, David Staton and wife, Donna, of Madison Heights; a special aunt, Nancy Henson, of Luray; many nieces and nephews, and his best buddy, his dog, Macy. He was preceded in death by his sister, Vicky Cyrus, and a loving aunt, Shirley Cash.
