Richard T. Hughes Sr., 76, Lapel, died June 25, 2003 at Riverview Hospital-Noblesville after an extended illness. He was born April 30, 1927 in Albany, KY, and lived the majority of his life in the Anderson/Lapel area. He retired from Brockway Glass, Inc., in Lapel after 20 yrs of service. He was an Army veteran serving his country during the Korean War, decorated with 4 Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the Army Occupation Medal He was a member of Rangeline Community Center in Anderson, the American Legion – Lapel Post, and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed woodworking, bird watching and taking care of his fish. He is survived by his Daughter: Carrie Mae Corwin companion, Jeff Warwick of Noblesville; 4 sisters, Ruby Lowe of Chesterfield, Barbara husband, George Brenner of Kokomo, Doris husband, Tony Moss of Anderson, & Patty husband, Don Pitts of Monticello, IN; a brother, John wife, Mary Hughes of Chesterfield; four grandsons, Jim Ellis of Fortville, Jonathon Ellis of Noblesville, Jacob Ellis & companion, Heather of Noblesville, and Jessie Corwin of Noblesville; one great granddaughter Jada Elizabeth Ellis of Noblesville; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Erma Jean Bartlette He was preceded by his wife, Phyllis Jean Yattaw Hughes in 1997 and a son Richard T. Hughes, Jr., in 1972.
