Richard Powell, 85 years old, of Cave Creek, Arizona passed on June 4, 2021 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Richard was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina and lived in North Carolina with his family until he joined the U.S. Navy after he graduated from high school in June of 1956, at the age of 20 years old. Richard was a Navy Sea Bee, Chief Petty Officer, and served in Vietnam for four tours.

Richard met and married his wife Mary Jane in November of 1962 in Twentynine Palms, California, when he was stationed at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. Directly after they married Richard was deployed to Okinawa, Japan where Mary Jane joined him and where their two sons Michael and Darrell were born.

In 1970 Richard flew back to the states from Vietnam to welcome his new baby girl, Alicia. The family then moved to Texas, Rhode Island and then California where he was stationed at Port Hueneme Naval Base and retired from the U.S. Navy in 1975.

Richard then began work at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona and was then offered a promotion as a supervisor of the construction department at Davis Monthan Air Force Base where he completed 26 years of Civil Service until retirement in 2003.

Richard enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and really enjoyed traveling. Richard also enjoyed watching sports, dining out and playing slot machines at the casino. He loved going to Laughlin and Las Vegas with his sons and daughter, where they enjoyed so many fun times. Anyone who knew Richard, knew that he enjoyed telling stories of the military and sharing so many fascinating experiences in the 20 years he served in the Navy.

Richard was born the same year as Elvis and he was Richards favorite singer. He would play his songs at any opportunity and really enjoyed watching his movies or singing along to the songs while in the car.

He was a Dallas Cowboys fan after living in Texas and then became a Cardinals and Diamond Backs fan as well, after living in Arizona for so many years. He also enjoyed watching the Wildcats U of A Basketball team. He enjoyed many times attending the Cardinals and Diamondback games with his daughter Alicia.

Richard was a loving husband, father, brother, son, and uncle. He was loved by everyone who knew him as he had a kind, friendly and gentle mannerism about him.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother Beulah Powell, father Hermann Powell, brother David Powell, sister Dorothy Morton, his son Darrell Powell and his son Michael Powell.

He is survived by his wife Mary Jane Powell, daughter Alicia Powell, and brother Bobby Powell.
