He was born September 18, 1949 in Silver City to Apolonio and Irene Pena Sierra. He was a miner for the Tyrone Mines, construction worker, worked for Food Mart, Memorial Medical Center, Behavioral Health Companies, President of Lulac 8003, also coached the Lulac baseball team, and was President of Silver City Little League.

Richard was a hard working person. He was honest, fair and straight forward. He had a big heart and was always willing to help others. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family, and with his dog’s “Lucky,” “Evee,” and “Britney.”  He loved to joke around, make people laugh, listen to spanish music, hunting, fishing, and traveling; especially while accompanied by special friends.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Antonia Sierra of the family home; One daughter, Jeannette M. Sierra; one son Richard James Sierra; two grandchildren Anthony Rey Nicholas Sierra; Jocelyn M. Rodriguez, Husband Hector Garcia; six great grandchildren, Emily Garcia, Samuel Garcia, Aryel Garcia, Jordan Sierra, Anthony Sierra Jr., Alina Sierra; four surviving brothers, Robert P. Sierra, wife Dora of Silver City; Eugene P. Sierra of Albuquerque; Earl Sierra, wife Susie, Phillip Sierra, wife Gloria of Tucson, AZ; and one sister, Rebecca Sierra of Denver, CO.He was preceded in death by his parents. Two brothers, Apolonio “Polo” Sierra; Antonio “Tony” P. Sierra; one sister, Veronica Duarte.
