TORRINGTON –MORTENSEN – Richard Mortensen, 77, of Torringford West Street, died on Monday, January 21, 2008 at his home. Born June 15, 1930 in Hartford, CT; the son of the late Edward and Carrie (Bailey) Mortensen. He grew up in New Hartford. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Richard moved to Torrington 16 years ago. He ran the officers club at the Seattle military base. He also was retired manager of the V.F.W. in Torrington. He was a History and WWII buff, was an avid coin collector and enjoyed playing cards. He was a member of the North Congregational Church in New Hartford. He is survived by a nephew, Brian J. Mortensen of East Hartford; a niece, Tara L. Mortensen of Simsbury; a sister-in-law, Rosemary Werdelin and brother-in-law, Robert Werdelin, both of West Hartford and many cousins and second cousins in the Newington and West Hartford areas. He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Mortensen; a sister-in-law, Ruth G. Mortensen; four uncles, William H. Mortensen, Neils Mortensen, Peter Mortensen and Elmer Mortensen; and two aunts, Alice Mortensen and Trice Mortensen.
