Richard M. Williams retired Lt. Colonel USAF, a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado for 40 years, slipped the surly bonds of earth on Saturday the 5th of April 2014 at the age of 78. His beloved wife, Betty, of 55 years and family were at his side. Richard was born September 16, 1935, in Bellevue Florida to Grace and Edwin Williams who are deceased. His brother, Edwin, and sister, Madeline have also passed on. Survivors include his wife, Betty, sons, Stephen and wife, Angela, son Mark, son Patrick and wife Lisa. He is also survived by 8 Grandchildren and 4 great Grandchildren. Richard grew up in San Marcos, Texas where he graduated from San Marcos High School in 1954. He then attended college at Southwest Texas University joining ROTC where he acquired his love for the military. He was an outstanding ROTC graduate and tops in his class. Lt. Col. Williams served his country for 20 distinguished years starting as a combat pilot in Vietnam and finishing his career as director of flying at the Air Force Academy. During that time, he earned many awards and honors. Richard was president of Centennial Sertoma Club from 1988-1989. He was also very active in St. Michael”s Episcopal Church. Truly, Richard was a man of strong principles and integrity. He was a devoted family man; an awesome husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather who set the best example for his family. He deeply loved his family and friends, his country, his God, and instilled his values on two generations of his descendants. Richard had a profound impact on many people and will be missed by all.
