Those left to honor Richard’s memory include his wife, Florence Howell of Newton; two sons–William (Jean) Howell of Des Moines and Scott Howell of Newton; his daughter, Kimberly (Kirk) Albright of Fargo, ND; four grandchildren–Jordan, Justin, Jennie, and Amanda; four step-grandchildren–Rob, Crystal, Alex and James; twelve step-great-grandchildren; his sister, Joann Cummings of Colfax; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Howell of Walnut.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Hewith and Dorothy Elizabeth (Wade) Howell; an infant daughter, Rhodonna Eileen; two sisters, Darlene Plummer and Marjorie Ingraham; and a brother, Marvin J. Howell.
Richard was a graduate of Colfax High School. He started working in the yard at Maytag when he was 17. After serving in the Navy, worked in dishwasher assembly at Maytag.
Richard was a member of the VFW Post 1655. He enjoyed fishing, antiquing-especially for Depression glass, camping, and family vacations.
